What is a doula?
A doula accompanies a woman in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying pregnancy, birth, & postpartum experience tailored to her needs & desires.
When should I hire a doula?
Whenever you feel ready! Where do you think you’ll need the most support? For the first time mamas, having a doula during pregnancy can help build a relationship that meets her needs for labor and postpartum care. Mamas who already have children and/or ample family support may only need help during labor and the postpartum period.
What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A midwife provides medical care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum while a doula supports the mother physically & emotionally while providing necessary information. It is common to see a doula work alongside a midwife.
What are some things a doula can help with in the postpartum period?
In the postpartum period, the goal is to create space for new parents to rest and adjust to life with a newborn. For example, a doula can keep an eye on the baby during showers or naps as well as help with feedings, baby laundry, baby dishes, etc.
Are doulas just to help mom?
No, doulas are there to support the family as a whole. We love to involve partners, siblings, and other close relatives in the process because they know mom best and they will also play a major part in welcoming the new baby!
